The story drives it all and made reading g this bearable. The writing style, grammar, etc., are pretty awful. Just a basic - God, as in"Thank God," is capitalized. That is just one instance where something that should have been capitalized wasn't. The numerous continuity errors don't help. Certain events are terribly predictable. I suppose one could argue that the juvenile dialogue reflects the reality of Chloe being a teenager, but does she really have to sound so stupid and whiny? For example, a demi-goddess tells her that she will need to train for the coming war between vampires and hunters and Chloe exclaims, "but I don't want a war!" At another point, Chloe goes to the hospital to visit someone who was seriously injured, so she can end her relationship. Nice. Chloe is utterly unlikable. Throughout the short stories, Chloe is childish, wimpy, and foolish. The demi-goddess gives her advice that she completely ignores. Of course, there are no consequences to failing to follow the advice, so I guess that isn't a big deal, but then why was the advice given in the first place? In another scene, a character explains why she loved Chloe's father. Then,I understood that; I had always understood that. "How could you love someone so cruel?"
Wait. What? Apparently, she *didn't* understand that. Other characters are equally annoying. Why should Drew express just one emotion when he can express contrary ones, one right after the other. The best character is Alice, but even she ranges from one extreme to the next. The only reason that I was sad that The Vampire's Daughter ended was because I wanted to know what happens with Alice. I can guess at everything else. And you do have to guess. Although the series ends (each serial is a glorified chapter), the story doesn't. The reader is left hanging at an arbitrary point in time, when there has been no real conclusion. I had to grit my teeth throughout for one reason or another and there were countless eye-rolling moments. Although I am older (OK, really old), I enjoy many young adult books and series. For one thing, these stories are clean. A lot of what I have read is quality work. This is not. The story saves it, but just barely.

I'm really glad this had the entire book. All together it is one book, where as before it was in installments, and I can't handle that. This is a clean read, which I do appreciate. The characters are very emotional, and exceedingly immature. It's hard being a teen, but I would have been happier to see more positive changes occur. Instead, it was like they were all just swept along for the ride. Not being able to control your emotions while being a trained killer, these things don't mesh well. If you can overlook those "bumps", it's not a bad read. I'm glad it was clean!
I bought a copy of this book when it was on sale.
Chloe has just discovered that her mom was a vampire hunter after seeing her murdered right before her eyes. That night, she was rescued by her grandfather, another hunter and explains her bloodline. She learns that her mother conceived her with a vampire. Vampire and Vampire Hunter? Oh, this is too good!
From that point forward, Chloe vows to get strong, learn her abilities, and avenge her mother’s death. Apparently, she had some big shoes to fill, because her mother was probably the best vampire slayer in a town full of hunters. The story begins with Chloe’s promise to kill the thing that claimed to be her father a vampire.
Throughout the series, Chloe struggles with her training and, eventually, discovers that she can start fires with a flick of her wrist, making her a powerful weapon against her enemies. The reader is guided through the history and legends of the slayers as Chloe becomes more attuned to her abilities.
Series was enjoyable and addicting. It’s best to get the complete bundle rather than the individual parts, because each one ends in sort of a cliffhanger, which can be annoying.
Even though the end battle with Trevor was probably the most climactic scene in the series, it felt sort downplayed to me. I wished Chloe would’ve been more of a fighter like Buffy. Then the whole thing just sort of tapered off in the end.
If you enjoyed Buffy, the Vampire Diaries or even (heaven forbid!!) Twilight, then you enjoy this book.
It starts with a bang, introducing the reader to Chloe's life as a Dhampir, a half human/half vampire. Until her Mother's death, Chloe just thought she was a normal teenager, not the result of her Mother's seduction by a bloodsucking vampire!
Add in the fact that her Mother was a fearless Vampire Hunter & you have the makings of an enjoyable YA book.
The narrator did a great job depicting the angst of a teenaged girl. She varied her voice enough with the other characters to let the listener know who was talking.
All in all, a fun beginning to what should be a great series!
I love YA books, but the writing here, unfortunately is atrocious! The grammar isn't even an elementary school level. It does move really fast, which is great, because once I begin reading a book I am invested and have to finish. I am not sure how this title accrued so many good reviews, it boggles my mind. I must now seek out something else she has written for comparison. Grab it if it's free. Pass if it isn't.
